When I was a kid I desperately fell in love with Edward Scissorhands. That magical atmosphere and brilliant music just got me. Few years later I was watching with serious expression on my face but with uncontrolled bursts of laugher his other film called Mars attacks! Even the movie’s ratings are lower, I don’t care. The movie carried lot of Burton-ish elements and that just gives it incredible artistic value. Later then the Big Fish came and I have to admit, it was a really, really big fish to me! And I bet that for many other Burton’s fans as well. Other movies, such as Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or the musical Sweeney Todd: The Demo! n Barber of Fleet Street, were excellent pieces as well. His movies reflects in many aspects his own life. Growing up in American suburbia just with two friends – movies and paintings created from a shy boy one of the most talented American film directors and producers in the world. This status allows him to fulfill his own dreams not only in the movies but also in other spheres. Tim Burton is going to head this year’s Cannes film festival jury. This year’s festival will run from May 12 to 23 and as Burton said it is like a dream come true. For festival president Gilles Jacob is Tim Burton “magician” and he hopes his “sweet madness and gothic humor” will manifest on the festival’s atmosphere. There is no doubt that Burton takes this opportunity serious. After all, his words clearly prove it: “After spending my early life watching triple features and 48-hour horror movie marathons, I am finally ready for this. When you th! ink of Cannes you think of world cinema. And as films have alw! ays been like dreams to me, this is a dream come true.”
