The world is not in crises for art by Zivka Deleva

If you are very rich and you are fond of art, there is no place elsewhere you should be, but in the Swiss city Basel, where the biggest art market in the world exists. The four day fair accepts 60,000 artists, collectors, gallery’s representatives and art lovers who come once in the year to sell and buy. Private jets fly over the sky of Basel. According to the first announcement and impressions, it seems like the developed world slowly but surely recovers from the world’s recession. If we judge by the auctions that have happened in the last few months, when art d’oeuvres have been sold for millions of dollars, we might expect that a lot money are going to! be spent on the art these days. Around three hundred world’s galleries came to represent over 2,000 artist from all the meridians. The main remark is that like in every pore from the social living the globalization takes more and more space, the artists are not out of this process. More and more artists show global attitude. There is no form of art expression that you can’t find in the fair. You have paintings, sculptures, installations, performances and video art. And, as expected, the prices travel from thousands of dollars for not very well known artists to millions of green papers for the well accredited artists. The public will have the chance to be close to few pieces of art which were sold for tremendous prices in the last few months – like a triptych by Francis Bacon which was bought for $86.3 million, or canvases from Murakami Takashi, or Pop-art stars Robert Rauschenberg and Tom Wesselman. “Thanks” to the few big thieveries from! the beginning of the year, the insurance companies now have m! ore job to do and a lot more money to earn. Allianz Suisse insurance company is excited that their work has increased for 30 percent.
