How to manage job interview?
by Barbora Misakova

Sometimes I really regret I have never been invited to job interview in America. With questions such as “If you were a breakfast cereal, what kind would you be?” or “What would you do if I gave you an elephant?” it must be fun! While most of those interviews I had a “pleasure” to attend here in Slovakia were too official and quite boring, I would really appreciate something what would help me relax a bit. This sort of question should not only help you to calm down, but also offer you a space for introducing yourself in funny and interesting way. Karen Burns, author of the illustrated career advice book “The Amazing Adventures of Wor! king Girl: Real-Life Career Advice You Can Actually Use!” says we should answer these questions without stonewalling or saying “What does this have to do with the job?” If we did so, it would make us look as defensive, inflexible and uncooperative. Another and very useful tip is: remember there is no “right” answer to questions like these. It means you can say anything you want, BUT it doesn’t mean you should answer without pondering for a moment. If you try to guess the motive behind the question, it may be helpful as well. It is also very important to realize you are not a “slave to the question” – if you cannot identify with none of the possible answers (for example with particular characters), you can answer smartly by naming some of favorable qualities of these characters. Whatever these questions will be, try to be funny, look smart and sensible. Just keep cool!
