Just for fun
by Claudia Sonea
British people are famous for many things and most of all for their wit humor. It"s clever, sarcastic and just like a fortune cookie it has a hidden message and can puzzle non-British speakers of English. In time British humor has become a term applied to comedic motifs that are prevailed by comedy acts and television programs such as Benny Hill, Monty Python, Mr Bean, Beyond the Fringe, and many others.
This week, our attention was caught by the Monty Python, a team of actors who created the Monty Python's Flying Circus a television comedy sketch show which is considered to have a huge influence on the comedy genre. They are among the oldest ones in business (since 1969), but people nowadays seem to taste their humor with the same frenzy like in the beginning and that is why Youtube is full of short clips from their 45 episodes. Now, that did not make happy any of the members of the British comedy troupe Monty Python and five days ago they decided to strike back. Michael Palin, Eric Idle, John Cleese, Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam recorded a video which they posted on Youtube and had the purpose to fill in the fans that they are launching their own channel on the video-sharing site. All videos from their popular television show and movies will be free to access for all users and the bonus is a high-quality view. They explained their reason and their discontent of losing money from unauthorized usage of the clips up to this point, requesting in return for the fans to click on the ads. It is enough to say that 492,048 people viewed the clip and the channel has already over 21,235 subscribers.
Google is really turning Youtube into a legal and straight video-sharing site without losing the subscribers. After MGM, the live show, now comes this partnership with Monty Python. Bravo!
