French docudrama wins at Cannes by Lucia Hrusovska

I am convinced that almost everybody noticed, that few days ago, in the concrete from 14 to 25 May, the 61st Annual Cannes Film Festival was held. For those, who does not much about history of this festival, it was founded in 1946 and it is one of the oldest, most famous and prestigious film festival in the world. As well as it was this year, the private festival is held annually (usually in the month of May) at the building called Palais des Festivals et des Congres, in the town of Cannes situated in the south of France. These year has been no exception and many notable films have been awarded. A huge splash was made by the film talking about one classroom coming from the French “beamhouse”. This French film called The Class, originally Entre les Murs in French, is actually very honest and straight story talking about lives of students and teachers at a junior high schools, and very interesting fact about this film is, that characters in the film are actually real. This admirable film was directed by Laurent Canted, for who this award means the first real big success in his career. The last time, when French film won this main prize also called the Palme d'Or. was in 1887 for the shot called Under Satan's Sun, so the victory was naturally connected with a big triumph. As Sean Penn said, who headed the jury, the decision within the panel clustered from nine members was totally unanimous, so there is no doubt about fair victory of this film.
