Gustavo Dudamel
by Claudia Sonea
His music sounds like heaven and you fall instantly in love with him. He gives a whole new meaning to the classical music. Have you guessed who am I talking about? Just say...Gustave Dudamel! Talent is definitely a winner and Gustavo has plenty, at age 27 being the principal conductor of Sweden's Gothenburg Symphony. Not only that, but he also is considered to be a very hot guy according to the New York Times. Fate was good to him, born in Barquisimeto in the state of Lara, he become involved with El Sistema, the famous Venezuelan musical education program, and took up the violin at the age of ten. Since 1999 when he was appointed music director of the Orquesta Sinfónica Simón BolÃvar, the national youth orchestra of Venezuela, he had only successes, winning prizes and touring all over the world. For him indeed music is the language of love and feeling comfortable with what he is doing, he is the golden boy of classical music. Dudamel was invited with the orchestra at Walt Disney Concert Hall in January 2007 in performances of "Dances of Galanta" by Zoltan Kodaly, the Piano Concerto No. 3 of Sergei Rachmaninoff with Yefim Bronfman as soloist, and Bela Bartok's "Concerto for Orchestra. He was named the LAP's next music director as of the 2009-2010 season, succeeding Esa-Pekka Salonen. Unfortunately for all the girls that already started dreaming of a fairytale next to him, Gustavo is married with his longtime girlfriend, EloÃsa Maturén- a Venezuelan native, trained ballet dancer and a journalist. You can still listen for his divine music and you will see Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert and all the others that seemed to you boring will have a whole different meaning for you from that moment on. Enjoy!
