The Jazz festival for the first time in its full length after Katrina
by Tatiana Hadarova
Almost three years after Katrina the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Orchestra is returning to its first full seven days of programming in April 25-27 and May 1-4. And this year is going to be full of the most famous names of jazz as well as pop music. The biggest surprise this year will probably be live performance of Stevie Wonder who will show up on stage after twenty years of hybernation, since he hasn't really be touring over the last two decades. Although Stevie is no stranger to the festival, this time it will be his debut as a headliner. Stevie Wonder haven't performed on the Jazz fest since 1973 when he participated in the jam session with the Meters. Festival producer Quint Davis said, that he couldn't be more excited that Wonder is one of He main fest acts. This annual Jazz fest is hold at the Fair Grounds, a horse racing track, where it will be built up to host more than 1.000 artists. Among the big names are Billy Joel, Sheryl Crow and country singer Tim McGraw, who are also "first & timers" at the festival, along with Santana, Jimmy Buffet or Dr.John. Headliners for April are Alison Krauss, Robert Plant, Sheryl Crow and Elvis Costello. Wonder performs on May, 2 and He festival will be closed by great The Neville Brothers, who had been the festival's closing act form more than a decade. The festival also includes other cultural exhibits and surely will be full of food and other arts and crafts. "There's some really special stuff this year," Davis said.
