The lust for painting - Will for life for a Haiti artist
by Zivka Deleva

This January a terrible and catastrophic earthquake happened on Haiti. The Haitian government reported that an estimated 230,000 people had died, 300,000 had been injured and 1,000,000 made homeless. It was big and horrible stroke for humanity. Many people, many counties took place in helping and dealing with the problem. Sorrow and sadness is felt in Haiti even today, 10 months after this accident. But another different and happy story is surrounding the world these days. Kesner Salvent, a 26-year old painter, who survived the earthquake after being buried alive under a tumbled building, showed the world that has an iron will. He spent the last ten months in rehabilitatio! n centers first in Atlanta and than in Maine. He had serious injuries on the spinal cord which caused him problems with his arms and legs. He didn’t know if he will be able to walk or paint again. He was brought to USA for surgery and that was actually his first time to go out from Haiti. He didn’t speak any English at all and didn’t have any family around him. But he had a goal to make himself better and worked really hard on that. Today his fine motor coordination isn’t good enough yet and still needs months of work, but he is prepared on everything as long as he can go back to his biggest love- the painting. Kesner’s case is very inspiring and it makes us thankful for everything that we have. Keep on going Kesner Salvent!!!

Black Eyed Peas to perform Super Bowl halftime show
by Zuzana Zelenakova

According to the news on the band´s website Black Eyed Peas will perform during Super Bowl halftime show on February 6 next year. The chance to perform this slot is coveted by all as we are talking here about the climax of American football season watched by millions across the US. Last year, the figures reached 153 million viewers. Obviously there are no limits to the popularity of Black Eyed Peas and the Super Bowl performance will only confirm that. "They could have picked anybody. But it says something that they picked us," said Will.I.Am to Rolling Stone. The new album of the band called The Beginning is due to be out on November 30 and so they have a lot to look! forward to in near future. Super Bowl performances include stars and music legends sucha s The Who, they performed this year, Prince, U2, Phil Collins, Aerosmith, Sting, P.Diddy, Justin Timberlake, Michael Jackson performing Billie Jean and Heal the world among the others back in 1993, Diana Ross and the list could go on and on. Many surely remember Janet Jackson´s 2004 Super Bowl performance when she showed more than she had intended to and her boob was mentioned on daily basis for some time. However, not even Janet Jackson´s boobs could outshine the Rolling Stones in 2006 and their Satisfaction. However, the man who knows how to work the crowd is Bono, no doubt about that. U2 performed in 2002 as tribute to 9/11 victims kicking it off with Beautiful Day and then moving to one old goodie Where the streets have no name, from 1987 album The Joshua Tree, which is still considered by many to be the U2´s best. Well, when it is for a good cause Bono is simply un! stoppable.

Harry Potter breaking record sales.
by Milota Sidorova

Harry Potter. There is something really interesting to realize. Few years ago, media reported that the author Joanne K. Rowling had problems to fulfill the contract with production company. For a while she expressed a disagreement or disappointment to finish Harry Potter saga. Well it's pretty hard to write seven books about one person, J.R.R Tolkien, a fantasy legend made it „only“ a trilogy. But Harry Potter survived and Rowling somehow found a strength to finish a serie. Now, the first of the last serie is entering cinemas. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 earned $50.3 million over weekend and grabbed the first place at top ten most successful movies this autumn. We are not here to judge the content, but seen from economical perspective it is clear that Potter broke records. If fall 2009 was dominated by Twilight „New Moon“, this weekend it was Potter that earned $220.4 million in the U.S. and $389.2 million overseas just in 10 days. S! o using a simple mathematic, Potter transformed into a gold mine rising total amount of $609.6 million. The second in the list of most successful weekend movies in the U.S. was Disney cartoon musical about fairy-tale pricess called „Tangled“. Disney movie made $49.1 million in two weekend days. The third most successful movie was Megamind earning $12.9 million, followed by Christina Aguillera and Cher's song-and-dance tale „Burlesque“ that made $11.8 million. The top five was closed with Unstoppable action, drama, thriller casting Denzel Washinghton, Chris Pine and Rosario Dawson.

Thanksgiving five day weekend promises excellent box office
by Zivka Deleva

When you say the name J.K.Rowling and you combine it with a prolonged holiday week-end than, what do you got? Three, two, one... yes, don't hesitate to answer - you have a blockbuster Harry Potter sequel that's going to earn the biggest money on the box office. It's Thanksgiving Day today and Americans don't work for five days! I can only imagine what lines are there going to be in front of the U.S. theatres these days for "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1". The David Yates movie, the seventh Harry Potter magic sequel is suppose to earn some 80 million dollars. By far, in the U.S. cinema repertoires the next-to-last sequel in the Warner Bros. saga has earned ama! zing 200 million dollars. Every serious production house in the States knows exactly when it should offer a new title to the moviegoers. Even small children know that the holidays are the best days for a new title to be launched. So "Disney" did the best thing - it premiered the 3-D animated fairy tale "Tangled" knowing how successful animated movies can be. A sum of about twice smaller than the Harry Potter prediction is the updated version of "Rapunzel" about to earn. What other movies are about to attract people to go to the cinema and not stay at home in front of the TV sets? I am sure that some other generation of movie fans are not going to miss "Burlesque" with music star Christina Aguilera and Cher and this musically based movie is suppose to gather about 20 million dollars for the five day week end. There are actions and thrillers as well for those that are not so soft-hearted.

Chrobáci na iTunes.
by Milota Sidorova

Pod&! No a v neposlednom rade si treba uvedomiť, ž! ;e Beatles skončili s kariérou niekoľko desiato! k rokov dozadu a na trhy sa odvtedy dostávajú maximálne remastrované výberovky typu the Best of Best. TerraFirma nedávno prehrala 4 miliardový súdny prípad s bankou Citigroup a podľa všetkého stratila konkurencie schopnosť s inak vitálnymi súpermi Sony music alebo Vivendi SA Universal Music.

Beatles on iTunes
by Milota Sidorova

It's amazing how even after decades Beatles can still grab some media attention and be the target of gossips. But this time, it is not the music that is the main „in“ thing when speaking of this breaking edge music group. Apple's iTunes has released the report in which it proudly showed it finally got the rights to sell Beatles via this music shop. After years on failing agreements between Apple and EMI Grouprecording company, two sides finally found a common dialogue. They talked business. According to Mark Mulligan, an analyst at Forrester Research it was Steve Jobs's personal goal – to get Beatles to the digital sale on iTunes. But although Beatles with! all its 13 albums can be downloaded from no.1 digital music retailer, it may not be that break through as it was expected. According to some analysts Beatles have waited much too long and missed the period their music was demanded via digital download. Still fundamental fans are buying physical Cds and considerable part of customers use illegal download. There is also a fact that Beatles have finished long time ago and nothing really new except of remastered album collections and Best of the Best has been coming out. One of the reasons it took so long to sell it via iTunes were also major disagreements between two living Beatles members and two widows after Lenon and Harrison about this way of selling the music. And another hint why EMI has finally agreed to sell their music via digital download are current financial problems of the company that lost the ground against major rivals Vivendi SA's Universal Music Group or Sony music. EMI is owned by TerraFirma that has recentl! y lost a court case against Citigroup and paid 4 billion pound! s for ch arges.
