The greatest achievement of mankind is the invention of the writing tools without which nothing could have been created because all the knowledge gathered across time needs a mean of circulation. All the books written until now contribute to our enlightenment and fuel our need to discover, to learn. However, nowadays, there is an increasing worry concerning people’s interest in reading as the book could be viewed on the Internet or even worst the information could be taken straight from the Internet. In spite of complaints that nowadays people read less than in the past, sales show that books are still at high demand. New genr! es have emerged and tastes have changed with the legal thriller being predominant. Among the most famous authors alive is John Grisham who manages to capture our attention with controversial stories about lawyers and crimes that take place in small towns. He continued to pursue his dream of publishing “A Time to Kill" even if no publisher seemed interest in his books and fortunate for us because otherwise we wouldn’t have had all his 23 blockbusters to enjoy. Why did his books have so much success? A possible explanation would be that his experiences as lawyer helped him to get a good perspective on the human mind, which then combined with his abilities as novelist gave some of the best books at the end of the 20th Century and the beginning of the 21st Century. As we are mysterious beings, curious, introspective and creative, we constantly need excitement in our lives and therefore we are lured by the suspense, the web of intrigues, the mys! teries, the hero that characterize the legal thrillers. I reco! mmend &# 8220;The Associate” by John Grisham and “Capitol Offense” as this year’s releases and my all time favourite: “To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee. Enjoy!
