Lennon's handwritten lyrics sold by Livia Cseresova

John Lennon's lyrics for a song Give Peace a Chance went on sale at a London auction on 10 July. Lennon wrote the lyrics and recorded the song in a hotel room with approximately 50 guests, including singer Petula Clark and beat poet Allen Ginsberg.

The lyrics were originally given to Gail Renard, a comedy writer, in 1969, when she was 16 and they were given to her in Montreal at John Lennon and Yoko Ono's eight-day "bed-in", together with other mementoes.

Gail Renard was a student in Montreal when Lennon and Ono visited it to hold their "bed-in", which was a protest for peace after being denied access to the United States. Renard, together with her friend, slide in a hotel (the Queen Elizabeth Hotel), in hope to make an interview for their university magazine with the famous couple.
They knocked on the door and the couple not only let them in, but Renard got to spend the rest of the week with the popular duo. John Lennon then gave Renard a couple of things and said that one day they will be “worth something”.

Lennon was absolutely right. They are actually worth a lot at the moment. Christie’s auction house has sold his handwritten lyrics to "Give Peace a Chance" song for $833,654. Interesting is, that Gail Renard, who Lennon and Ono remained great friends with since the hotel visit, has never showed the mementos given to her by the couple publicly before- Christie’s auction was the first time.
