TV strike effects Claudia Sonea

Broadcasters had their annual presentation of the fall schedules. Unfortunately, the news was not that good and showed a decline in audience that might be due to the writers strike or to a slide of interest. Also, it can be a repetitive phenomenon as even last year in the same period there was a 5 percent drop from a year before. Or, people can simply be bored with traditional television, who knows? All the big networks lost audience according to Nielsen Media Research. Because of the strike they say people lost habit of watching TV, harming ongoing shows, but revealing a new attraction towards comedy. ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC had a 9 percent loss thus radicals changes had to be taken like NBC postponing "Heroes" for next fall and Fox’s "24" until next season. Some of this actions proved efficient, other however did not like CBS’ dramas “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation", and "CSI: Miami" which had the lowest average of viewers ever in spite of the strategy to make as many new episodes until the end of the season. Analyst laid the stress on the fact that the strike prevented the networks’ executives to come up with new material. Yet, the creation of pilot episodes although it gives an insight view on the series, cost million of dollars, so the strike saved money by forcing to quite on them. Moreover, everyone seems eager to find an escaping goat, overlooking the fact that the audience dropped several weeks before the strike. On the other side, the strike made networks to present their schedules to advertisers in a different manner, more sober and less glitzy. Now, it is up to advertisers to show how they perceive everything and how it impacted them the strike. It will be a turning point for all broadcasters, so don’t miss it by logging off. Enjoy!
