The Dead under the spot light
by Claudia Sonea

“Oldies but goldies” must ring a bell for those who hear. Mainly it makes people think about the music (art and other stuff too) of the fifties, sixties and seventies. In the 60s one of the bands that launched a trend and lasted across time until present day (more or less changed) is the Grateful Dead- an American rock band formed in 1965 that was in the vanguard of a psychedelic movement based on an eclectic style. The Grateful Dead, also called Deadheads, the Dead, the Warlocks, disbanded in 1995 after their lead guitarist and the leader or primary spokesperson for the group died of a heart attack. Some of the members reunited in 2003 and started to go on tour, later on adopting the name of “The Dead”. Rumor has it that the members of the former Grateful Dead and presently members of “The Dead” will go for a collaboration with the University of California at Santa Cruz that implies to give the rock band's archives, correspondence and other memorabilia. In fact, despite the refusal of UC Santa Cruz to comment upon such a partnership, the band spokesman Dennis McNally confirmed it saying that recordings will not be included. Moreover, it will be officially announced by Dead guitarist Bob Weir and bassist Phil Lesh on Thursday at San Francisco's Fillmore Auditorium, the band's place for legendary shows. Their music had an impact that echoes even nowadays due to their style combining rock, folk, bluegrass, blues, reggae, country, jazz, psychedelia, space music. Some people are still lured by the deadheads and their music. Personally, I recommend Althea and promise to instantly fall in love with it. Enjoy!
