Berlin in New York
by Barbora Kasparova
The New Yorkers had an outstanding opportunity to get the taste of the German capital for 17 days between November 2nd and 18th. The Carnegie Hall launched the first year of its new project "Berlin in Lights Festival". One of the main attractions of the festival were the performances of Berlin Philharmonic, considered to be the top among the world's orchestras, under British conductor Simon Rattle. The stunning performance of the whole festival was a featuring of more than 94 New York kids dancing their "The Rite of the Spring Project" ballet while the Berlin Philharmonic played Stravinsky's "Le Sacre du Printemps".The festival not only hosted musical events. New Yorkers were able to see many faces of the Berlin culture, as the Carnegie Hall playbill informed, "architecture, cinema, photography, literature, visual arts, politics, and cabaret will also be among the many facets"(http://www.playbillarts.com/features/article/7194.html). Events included performance by German cabaret singer Max Raabe, concert by group NomadSystem, exhibitions and movie projection
