Chris Cantell Discusses Entertainment: Is Apple going to engage in a music subscription service?
by Lenka Filipova
Steve Jobs bears a difficult task to solve nowadays. As Apple has reached the peak in the iPod business, there is a matter to solve to what extent Apple should have influence on the approach to wireless music. In fact, it is dealing with the task whether to join with musical rentals or not. If he decides to do so, Apple will provide all iPods with the system that will set the time limit to music content. In another words, it will work similarly as a music subscription service. It will result in installing a temper-proof clock that will erase the content after the time of expiration.Obviously, it has its pros as well as cons. On one hand, it seems to be a great opportunity to download the music you really like and what is more there is a certain evidence of the music genuineness. Moreover, it is a clear signal for the music industry that helps it to recognize what kind of music people really like to listen to. On the other hand, it has been found out that people do not consider this as very attractive way. Consequently, they do not show any interest if the music they downloaded can "disappear" because he music is not about the content that can be listen only once but there is a need to listen to it regularly as it has many effects on peoples' mood and behavior. The rest does not pay attention too as it has nothing to do with their very favorite iPod. In addition to this, there exists possibility to download music from Apple at 99 cent (or even for free with Limewire), hence there will be only a slight benefit from subscriptions. Thus, it is all in Mr. Jobs' hand whether Apple will introduce the subscription service to its iPods.
