It is not so easy to be a commoner
by Barbora Misakova
There are stories written or still more directed into beautiful romantic movies which are saying how young and ordinary girl from village, although these days still more are from big cities, meets young and wealthy boy and they both fell in love. After few weeks of dating she found out he is not as ordinary as he pretended & he is a prince! She doesn't want to see him nor talk to him, but after few days or weeks she realizes she loves him and doesn't want to live without him. So sweet, isn't it? I don't know what you think about these types of movies or stories but to be honest they get on my nerves. Marry someone from royal family is not such a fairy-tale.This time it looks that someone takes it serious and doesn't want to write about happiness but wants to show reality. John Burnham Schwartz, an American novelist, wrote Bicycle Days, Claire Marvel and Reservation Road which was a basement for making a movie with the same name. Schwartz's books are quite popular and were translated into more than 15 languages. These days he comes with something new & The Commoner. This novel says story about Haruko, non-aristocratic young girl who became the Empress of Japan, and to be honest writer didn't make another sweet story.Imagine you are living your life; you are studying, going to the cinema with friends, reading books and going out for walks with your dog. But then, your life changed and it "doesn't even resemble life." This novel is exactly about this. Haruko, daughter of a businessman fell in love with the Crown Prince and after wedding he is terrorized by her mother-in-low. All her life changed - "every single thing is monitored and every single thing has a protocol. It's as though you've been walking along and suddenly fallen down a well that's 5,000 feet deep." This literary piece doesn't want to criticize or do harm to anyone, it only shows how the monarchy works and reflects all traditions which help to it to survive the whole centuries.
