TV transmission available wholly on-line
by Martina Harvanova
A plan expressed by co-president Eric Kessler to "enhance the value of the HBO subscription by giving viewers greater access to our content" is the latest proclamation of the popular and still more demanded TV channel, if we in fact can qualify it with this label. HBO has decided to be available literally for anyone anytime. The competitors evolve and grow constantly and HBO can possibly face difficulties with providing transmission "just" to your television device. In 2001 introduced product called HBO On Demand has contributed to the cooler and fresher look of the broadcast provider, however, HBO wants more. Currently, its goal is to dazzle the potential customers with its HBO On Broadband. The new product of the pay-cable network is based on offering even broader selection of programming while users can program their computers to allow them download new movies or episodes. As all the new inventions also this one has a certain loss. To gain access, you must be a digital cable customer who subscribes to HBO, and you must use your cable company as your Internet provider. So far, HBO has offered only a limited amount of programming provided on-line, such as iTunes podcasts or its own website where viewers can watch clips or sample episodes. Through the HBO On Broadband the network tweaks its service as well as its wide reputation as a modern broadcaster aimed on those who require high quality of entertainment not intended for masses. With this new offer a question emerges, how the market segment is going to look like. As affirmed, the service will most appeal to business travelers who want to watch HBO on the road and younger viewers. The tendency of this group is taking the line of watching more TV through the PCs. Therefore, HBO On Broadband is designed to keep subscribers from pulling the plug. The issue consequently sounds whether we are ready to slowly abandon the traditional way of getting TV entertainment. Maybe nowadays it doesn't look like we are heading to the trend of watching every transmission on-line, but in the future it tends to be always more possible. Furthermore, it seems to get preferred by all of us.
