by Ludmila Martinicka

27 of Broadway theaters put the curtain down for a nine-day-long strike. Dispute between League of the American Theaters and Producers, Inc. and the union representing the theater started on 10th November without notice. Since this Sunday, theaters are opened again for all the visitors. Two days of talks between strikers and defenders brought peace for now. Not to loose visitors Broadway put a Strike-free zone on the web page for the time of the strike. Fans of "Marry Poppins", "Young Frankenstien", glamorous "Xanadu", one of bestsellers "Radio City Christmas Spectacular", long-running musical "Altar Boyz", "Blue Man Group"suited for whole family, "Spelling Bee" by William Finn, drama "Mauritius" by Theresa Rebeck, "Pygmalion", comedian show "The Ritz", Shakespeare's epic tale of power and magic "Cymbeline" and of many others could get their artistic adventure despite of the strike. Some ticket-holders from across the United States and around the world were not so lucky and found doors of the theaters closed. The price of a ticket moves around 500 dollars and more. 1.3 million tickets were sold to foreign tourists. So, it is not hard to imagine their reactions. However, they could enjoy the shows of Off-Broadway productions. For those, who don't know anything abut the theater, shows, plays and musicals, but anyway want to see one, Broadway's web page offers list of Best Sellers. There belong "Lion King" as the number 1, "Wicked" on the 2nd place, musical based on the ABBA's songs "MAMMA MIA!" as third, famous "The Phantom of the Opera", "Marry Poppins" and others.
