MySpace and Zazzle get together
by Barbora Kasparova

Better opportunities for starting artists, wider selection for consumers. On their official web site www.zazzle.com, Zazzle, the on-demand retail provider, promises: "Stay tuned... Something big is coming." The company started operating on-line in 2003. In 2007 they have a deal with MySpace, one of the world's favorite social network (Facebook fans, no offense). There are over 6 million bands and musical artists registered on MySpace at the moment (this number is growing, of course). With over 200 million accounts and up to 230 000 new users signing up for MySpace account every day, there is quite a market for possible music demand…Some of the popular artists have, in fact, successfully employed MySpace in their music promotion (Arctic Monkeys, for example). As an artist or a band - send a new friend invitation to random people, the curious ones will view your profile and might get interested in your music. However, up till now, users would have to use different tools to be able to purchase the musical "products" advertised on MySpace. See what will happen when Zazzle.com and MySpace cooperate? Well,it already did happen. Since October 30th 2007 the users of MySpace are able to purchase merchandise from MySpace musicians directly through their MySpace account. That makes it easier for the consumers. The artists will benefit as well & there are no up-front costs, fees or contracts necessary. How many times have we heard starting musicians lamenting over the financial costs of being a beginner? Well, get yourself together now and start selling your stuff.

MySpace a Zazzle.com sa spojili
by Barbora Kasparova

Art online
by Claudia Sonea

Since the dawn of times, art was part of human life and it nourished spirits. It was and it still is considered as a gift from God. People love going to art expositions and especially to painting. That is why there has always been a high demand in paintings at the museums. It is the case of one of Leonardo's masterpieces, Last supper, that can be visited by only 320000 people every year. Through the Internet, you can now see for free, from the comfort of your home the Last Supper of Leonardo at 16 billion pixels, which means 1600 times stronger than a picture of a regular camera with 10 million pixels. It is necessary to go all the way to Milan, Italy, hoping to be one of the twenty-five visitors that are allowed to visit it at every 15 minutes. Due to the high resolution offers the possibility of studying the 15th century wall painting. According to curator, Albert Artioli, viewers will have the impression that they are only a few inches apart by comparison to the regular picture that becomes grainy once you zoomed in. Furthermore, experts and art-lovers are now able to study it and there is also a project describing the way it appears nowadays, its value for future generations. They have been very strict concerning the visitation of the drawing due to the fact that it went through a great deal of adventures. The masterpiece produced in Milan's Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie suffered a process of restoration until 1999, because of its frailty- it was painted dry so it is easier exposed to dust and pollution. The restoration included to remove all the dirt collected along 500 years and previous masking of the work. The efforts of preserving the painting have collided with high demand of people wanting to see it, so they thought to open a site where you can watched almost like in real life Last Supper- which together with Mona Lisa has a unique position as the most famous, most reproduced and most parodied portrait and religious painting of all time. Don't waste any more time…just check it out. Enjoy!

2009 is THE year.
by Barbie Kunkelova

After one decides to explore a different side, take his talent a step further & to the next level and beyond, he should. It is great to upgrade and discover new things. For Mick Hucknall, the Simply Red lead singer, the "step further" became a reality. He started as a member of Frantic Elevators which formed in the seventies; they recorded four singles together out of which one became famous under the rule of Simply Red, the more successful band & Holding back the stars. The idea of Simply Red, as an English pop band, has formed in 1976, but the absolute start was in 1985. The band had many members: Mick, Chris Cobain, Steve and Pete Lewinson, Kevin Robinson, Dee Johnson, Ian Kirkham… It had 18 former members! Their first single as Simple Red was "Money's too tight to mention", it reached the top of hitparades all around the world. He was the face of the band and its artwork and all albums. It was his long red curly hair that created the image and the name of the band. This fame brought him a nice deal of confidence, for he dated famous ladies like Catherine Zeta-Jones or Helena Christensen (according to Wikipedia). He became a father in June 2007 & he has a daughter with Gabriella Wesberry. I personally remember Mick's featuring in Coolio's appearance on a TV program & they sang the "Gangsta's Paradise" together. Simply Red's last project was the album "Stay" where they went a different direction & that attracted Hucknall. After the tour is over in 2009, he would like to push matters further and record his first solo album.

Jackie Chan is singing instead of acting
by Nina Gotzmannova

China is ready for Olympics in 2008. This statement is not about building a new stadium or a new freeway. No. China has finally its official countdown song and its name is "We are ready". The performer of this song is no one less famous than actor Jackie Chan personally. The 53-year-old actor is not a newcomer in the field of singing. He is a famous singer in a genre called cantopop. Cantopop is Cantonese popular music, songs sang in Chinese, but accompanied with popular music. He has released 20 albums since 1984. Chan is also known for singing most of the theme songs appearing in his movies. This song is sung in English, but more than 100 Chinese pop stars also recorded a Chinese version. There is also a possibility the group of singers will record an English version too. The whole process of recording this song didn't take long for Jackie Chan, only three hours. In case the hundred of Chinese singers will do the same, it may take a whole week or two. According to Jackie Chan, the song is really impressive. He said in the countdown ceremony he had goose bumps and every time he hears the song he is proud of China and himself being Chinese. The 2008 Summer Olympics will begin on August 8 2008. Jackie Chens' first album was released in 1980 with the film The Young Master. In 1984 he recorded and released two albums, Love Me and Thank You. In the same year he won Best Foreign Singer Award in Japan. He can sing in five different languages, English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Japanese and Taiwanese and has sung over 100 songs.

Sarkozy fulfills promise
by Claudia Sonea

President Nicolas Sarkozy before his May election made a campaign promoting the idea of free entrance for museums in order to attract more people that are not usual museum goers or art lovers. His idea created a France's culture world debate, if it's only a matter of democratizing culture. However, now President's promise is being fulfilled, starting January 1, 14 French museums and monuments will be non-fee-paying for all visitors during six months, according to Culture Minister Christine Albanel. Paris hosts three of the elected museums: Guimet, home to Asian art, Cluny with medieval treasures and Arts et Metiers, dedicated to scientific inventions. Normally a visitor would have to pay between 9 and 11 dollars for a ticket. Nevertheless, Albanel said it's a trial period after which she will analyse how things are going and if the idea works. This initiative it's not new. Britain, starting 2001 scrapped entrance fees for many museums registering a 30 million increase in visitor number, according to former Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell. Also US' Smithsonian Institution museums and national zoo in Washington are also free of charge and the number of 23.2 million visitors proves it's a good idea to cancel fee entrances. In France it will go by the following rules: only permanent collections are non-fee-paying, while for the temporary ones are chargeable. As part of the experiment Orsay museum in Paris will introduce an open night per week for people with age between 18 and 25, while Louvre already has Friday night free of charge. Usually a ticket for the first one cost around 11 dollars, while for the latter one cost $13. However, Francoise Benhamou, a Sorbonne economics professor points out that for usual museum goers are already a lot of free nights that they can enjoy and only tourist will benefit of this decision. Still, he doesn't understand that this opportunity was not created for the usual museum visitor, but for those that are reluctant towards such a thing. It is commonly known that people would experience anything as long as it is free. Therefore the former experiences of the European countries are proves that it does work. As for the tourists that don't pay any tax to the state, even if it hurts to say that it would be better to make a difference and impose them a tax. They might not have the money to visit everything they want- as Benhamou said- but that's life. Enjoy!

Another Bond girl gone.
by Barbie Kunkelova

Deborah Kerr, Scottish actress who holds the record for the amount of Best Actress nominations, left us on October 16th, last Tuesday. She was born in year 1921 and during the 86 years of her Hollywood life she accomplished quite a bit; her name decorates one of the stars on the Walk of Fame in Los Angeles. Deborah's family was an ordinary one & her father was an architect and she had a brother nicknamed Teddy. She married twice during her adulthood, had two daughters and one step-daughter (thanks to the second husband). And spent most of her life in her Spanish and Swiss residences, but later returned back to Scotland in order to see more of her kids. Her "career" started with makings of the movie Contraband, but her shots were cut out. One merciful director assigned her a role in the movie "From Here to Eternity" where she shared a scene in waves of an ocean with Burt Lancaster. She also played a nun in Black Narcissus, a psychological thriller about nuns in Himalayas. From these scenes on, the offers for new jobs started swarming. She acted as a Bond girl in Casino Royale in 1967 (the one with David Niven in it). Maybe she was too much, just like Casino Royale & for one James Bond. As a theatre star, she debuted in Tea and Sympathy in 1953 on Broadway and started as a TV star in 1980s. In 1998, according to Wikipedia, she was appointed a Commander of the British Empire, but had to refuse -she died as an ill lady, she had the Parkinson's disease. Before the turnover, Deborah collected a neat selection of nominations: Academy, BAFTA, Emmy and Golden Globe Awards.

The cockatoo star
by Claudia Sonea

Youtube is famous for the most weird and divers video that the world has ever seen. Also some people or better said animals become real celebrities after appearing in one of the videos posted on the video-sharing site. You never know what might pop-up from the funny moment you tapped and then released it online. The latest star is an 11-year-old medium sulfur-crested cockatoo called Snowball. What do you think makes this bird to be special from all the other birds? Well, nothing else than the miracle of rocking on a 1997 song of the Backstreet Boys, Everybody. After lifting his legs, squawking, bobbing his head, flashing his bright yellow crest to the beat, the bird takes a bow with a vigorous bob of his head. "Inside Edition" and "The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet" were forced to feature Snowball's move due to the high demand of people of all over the world that have seen the cockatoo on Youtube or anywhere else. Everything started a few months ago when the cockatoo was given to the Bird Lovers Only Rescue shelter owned by Irena and Chuck Schulz. The donator sent also a CD with the instructions to see the bird's reactions while listening to it. Despite the fact that the couple takes care of more than 30 birds, only Snowball has succeeded to make a difference and get in the center of people's attention. Therefore, all the other birds can be adopted except him, who Irene says is now her baby. All in all, it's good to be Snowball.

Fairytale gone bad.
by Barbie Kunkelova

Celebrity overnight. That's what Paris Hilton became, literally. Since the night her amateur video in 2003 (recorded in an amateurish way among the four walls of her bedroom) hit the public, her fame has only grown and strengthened. Out of boredom and overflow of funds, she has tried everything. She became an actress known for not being able to shop in a supermarket or getting rid of a spider, a well-selling author of an autobiography book, a terrible pop singer and a drunk driver. In another words, this ambitious young lady acted in a American TV series called "Simple Life", wrote a book ("Confessions of a heiress"), recorded a pop album and ended up in jail for drinking and driving & at the same time, apparently. If you adore all this and want to own a little piece of this fairy, you can choose from a wide range of products labeled Paris Hilton, including perfumes or clothing. She also launched the trend of carrying a furry baby around. Her tiny chiwawa Tinker-Bell (inspired by a fairy from Barrie's story about Peter Pan) is as used to taking pictures, watching paparazzi and attending fashion events as any human celebrity in the world/in Vegas. Once you've personally sipped dog martini at Tao, occupied a special doggy bed suite above this club in Venetian and then were carried over to Wynn in a pink Gucci Balenciaga bag… You're not a normal dog anymore. And the same happens with humans. After experiencing so much, Paris decided to settle down in jail and read the Holy Bible. She, unlike her Tinker-Bell, made the decision to change the world and fly over to Rwanda to produce another TV series and see what's cool "down there". Rwanda is on this Earth, right?

Hollywood on court again
by Claudia Sonea

It seems like the beautiful life of the bold and the beautiful inhabitants of Hollywood is committed into showing us that the core is actually rotten. There are so many shows and news in the media about how the celebrities are spending their day to day lives and proves us they are no better than us or happier, sometimes they are much worst. No one is surprised anymore hearing that an actor was caught cheating, taking drugs, entering into a fight or driving under the influence of alcohol. Still this type of articles is sold in an instant. Why? Because we love knowing everything about the people that entertain us and give us hope there is a fairytale land somewhere out there. So for most of you that love Kiefer Sutherland, an Emmy and Golden Globe Award winning television and film actor, well known for his role of Jack Bauer on the television series 24, this will be a terrible piece of news: he will serve 30 days in a county jail. This was the result of a plea agreement that involved him to plead no contest to the allegations of driving with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit. In his behalf at the process attorney Blair Berk entered the plea and arranged to go to an alcohol-education class for a period of 18 months and also to attend weekly alcohol sessions for six months. This was not his first misdemeanor charge, Sutherland being under probation for a 2004 drunken driving arrest, but Superior Court Judge Stuart M. Rice revoked the probation in that case. All his trouble comes from a last month event at a traffic stop in Los Angeles. Luckily for him- and I think it is something more than simple luck- the charge of driving under influence was dropped. Another thing that makes as gasp in surprise is that the sentence was set for 21 December, when the winter break of the show 24 begins. Isn't it good to be an inhabitant of Hollywood? Law begins and ends where your fame and reputation begins and ends.

Back from the dirt
by Claudia Sonea

I think no other artist has been so criticized or written about in the media like Britney Spears. From the pop princess she ended up down in the dirt accused to be a bad mother and abusing of alcohol and drugs. Her success was extraordinary and girls from all over the world wanted to be like her...she was their goddess. After the break up with Justin Timberlake, she had a very long list of misfortune both on the financial and sentimental plan. She was married with a childhood friend for less than a day and then with Kevin Federline with whom she had two boys and is now under parenting coach in order to gain access to them. Furthermore there are allegations for a hit-and-run in an argument with some paparazzi. On the musical plan, she is coming back with a new album called "Blackout" after four years and will launch it on 30 October in USA and a day earlier internationally. Originally the launching day was fixed for 13 November but because a lot of the material was pirated on the internet, the dates were changed. The single "Gimme more" released from the album already got on the first place on the digital charts and No 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 single charts; her highest ranking there since her debut single, "... Baby One More Time". Britney is a living legend that showed the world that celebrities are human just like us. Despite her tragic debut on stage at MTV Awards, harshly criticized by everyone, because she looked like she was drunk or high, she still has the courage to go on and try to get back on her feet. Will she succeed? She already managed to lose a lot of weight and look even better than Beyonce, so I bet my money on her. Go, Britney, go!

Nobel Prize awarded to the oldest person ever
by Nina Gotzmannova

Several days ago, on 11 October, was presented the Nobel Prize for literature. The happy winner is Doris Lessing, an 87-year old writer, who seemed less than impressed. But considering her life there is probably nothing that can distress her. Doris Lessing was born in Perzia, now Iran, in 1919. Soon her British parents move to another continent, to Africa. Lessing was raised on a farm in Southern Rhodesia, former British colony now known as Zimbabwe. When she was 13, she left her school and as 15-year old she began to work as a nursemaid. After her first marriage failed, Lessing moved to London, become a socialistic book club member and met her second husband. Shortly after her second divorce her first book, The Grass is Singing, was published. Anyway, her breakthrough came in 1962, when The Golden Notebook was published. Lessing is mostly imaging three topics in her book, the Communist theme, the psychological theme and the Sufi theme, when she switched to science fiction theme. The British reporters came to Lessing's door, announcing her victory, but she seemed really calm, not impressed and sometimes cynical. She said that the prize is not awarded to dead people and the Academy wanted to be sure she will not die before they can award her. She also said that she is not excited about the money she had won because people will send her begging letters. The only good thing about the prize she sees is that people would be more attracted to her work. This acting is nothing new for Doris Lessing. In the past she declined damehood.
