Pay for your dinner and help poor children
by Barbora Misakova
In the time of wars, violence and conflicts there still exists the idea of helping others and for this reason many various charities were founded and every year lot of celebrities give money for helping those who need it the most. This time very unusual one took place to help poor and sick children around the world. This type of charity and commercial promotion was organized by United Nations on Wednesday night and celebrities such as Madonna, Drew Barrymore, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, Salma Hayek, Dita Von Teese and Tea Leoni and Lucy Liu who are the UNICEF Ambassadors. All these celebrities paid from $2.500 to $10 000 to dine such delicacies as "grappa-cured salmon, wild striped bass, tart of goat cheese, foraged mushrooms, truffled mashed potatoes and sticky toffee pudding with crème fraiche" and the whole night happening was moderated by pop queen Madonna who said it was a honor for her to work with UNICEF. First of all Madonna introduced children from Africa and played the video which introduced Raising Malawi, organization founded by her in 2006 to help orphans in African states. After that music show made by Rihanna, Timbaland and Alica Keys followed. Celebrity and this kind of snobbish night couldn't be whole without very glistening auction. If you were very wealthy and had redundant $100,000 then you could buy for example privilege of hanging out at Yankee Stadium with Alex Rodriguez or private hour playing soccer with David Beckham, just as Tom Cruise did. You could also bid a trip to Paris where you could go for a walk into vineyards and after that have a lunch with very precious company consisted of Francois-Henri Pinault and Salma Hayek and this whole trip will be just for a symbolic price of $120,000. And if you think all this is nothing, try to bid to tour with Madonna or take a dance class with her and Gwyneth Paltrow for $600 000! Honestly, I don't think so any of these offers would be attracting for me, but on the other hand I have to admit it was all done for a good purpose & to help about half of one million orphans from African countries. During this glamorous night celebrities raised 3.7 million American dollars which will be split among Raising Malawi and the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. All celebrities well satisfied because they had fun and also gave a financial help to those sectors where it's needed. So I there is no reason for criticizing it.
